Race to the Stones - Weeks 12-20

Week 12 and on.. coming back after injury

Week 11was where I realised I had to make a decision - start running again and build up quickly enough to hit the training plan mileage.. or default and pull out of the event.

I had spent quite a lot of time cycling, but needed to get time on my legs and also time on the trails and hills as I haven't done very much off road running for some time.

Weeks 12 was mainly road based, with little additions off road and I was waiting for my knee to blow up. It didn't happen and I found if I stretched and rolled for a good while after my run, I was actually feeling ok!.

Week 12 - 3 runs = 25.4 miles

Weeks 13 and 14 I added a longer run midweek (around Richmond Park) as well as moving past half marathon distance on my weekend long run. It was here I started the runs across the Seven Sisters... beautiful landscape, but hard work!

Week 13 - 3 runs = 32.1 miles

Week 14 - 3 runs = 35.8 miles

Belletoutheader

The steep chalk cliffs of the south downs adding difficulty, climbing, descending but also good practice for a run/walk strategy.

The mileage following the 20 week plan builds up more quickly than a traditional marathon plan, and also you are doubling up at the weekend, so the 2nd day is running on tired legs.

Week 15 - 4 runs = 37.7 miles

Week 16 - 4 runs = 40.3 miles

Week 17 has the highest volume - 4 runs = 44.6 miles

Week 18 has the 2 longest weekend runs, with both over 17 miles each. 3 runs = 39.5 miles.

Week 19 starts the taper:
4 runs = 21.5 miles...

And it's now week 20...
I've done a 2.5 miler this evening and in a couple of days time, I'll be at my brothers house getting ready for bed before the big first day!
