Of all the challenges and races I have seen in the last few years, for me, this is the one I look at and think "Could I really do this?" - From the first time I saw it, it has something drawing me towards it, despite it being at the moment way out of my league.
The Cape Wrath Ultra is a 400km (250 miles) ultra run through the wilderness of the NW Scottish Highlands taking in some of the more remote landscapes and places in the UK.
The event debuted in 2016 and being organised by an experienced team who specialise in remote ultra races (Ourea Ltd Events) you can guarantee the details have been well thought through to provide a special kind of event.
Starting in Fort William the route is based on The Cape Wrath Trail, a long distance backpackers epic, usually planned for 20 days hiking or more and it crosses the vast wilderness area of the highlands.
The event has a limit of 150 racers and entry is on a first come, first served basis, and while there are no specific pre-entry requirements, you are asked to sign a declaration that does state you are experienced, capable and fully aware of the nature of the event you sign up for.
You are supported over the 8 days, with tented accomodation, meals, and a backup team including medics and mountain safety team, but you will need to be able to confidently navigate in remote areas and be able to get to checkpoints within time limits.
For an absolute epic.. check this one out... I'm aiming for 2020!
