Learning to Breathe Fire...
Author: J.C. Hertz
List Price: $15.00 - RRP £13.02
A comprehensive and compelling story that goes from the beginnings of Crossfit as a single underground gym to it’s global presence today covering a breadth or topics that all have the single common thread.
The book has in-depth sections on the early days of Crossfit, some of the key individuals and their part in the growth of the sport and combines this with elements of sports science to help explain how Crossfit works from both the physical and cultural perspective.
As Crossfit began to grow you get an insight into how some of the key ongoing relationships started, and also why they continue to be successful today, and how the Crossfit Games rose from a humble event to a nationally broadcast, international multiday phenomenon.
One of the most interesting books I have read for a long time, if you like Crossfit, this is a must read.
Being relatively new to Crossfit I could see how it was different from anything I had done before and the book gives a fascinating insight into the history of the sport and how the physical programme and culture started and are still maintained today even as they have expanded into a global business.
The writing is well researched and informed, with the passion of the people and their workout culture coming through to make it an interesting and enjoyable read.
